Radiofrequency Therapy in Cosmetic Treatment

Radiofrequency therapy is an approach used in cosmetic treatment. Its operating principle involves high-frequency electromagnetic energy, which may improve skin firmness through RF lifting. It offers a non-surgical treatment option, although it should not be regarded as equivalent to plastic surgery.

What effects may electromagnetic radiation have on the skin?

  1. It is used to produce controlled heating of the epidermis and subcutaneous tissue.
  2. Tissue remodelling and renewal may be stimulated by the response to heating.
  3. Wrinkles may become less pronounced.
  4. Collagen synthesis may be stimulated as older fibres are remodelled and new fibres develop, potentially improving skin elasticity.
  5. Dead cells are cleared, and processes involved in skin renewal may be stimulated.

A controlled response in the dermis may contribute to aesthetic changes through tissue restructuring and skin renewal.

A distinctive feature of radiofrequency therapy is that changes may develop gradually over time. The source describes a prolonged regeneration process that may continue for up to six months. The extent and duration of visible results vary with the treatment and the individual.

Equipment for RF lifting and physiotherapy

Radiofrequency therapy devices are used in cosmetic treatment, physiotherapy and aesthetic medicine. The indications for these procedures are varied:

  • cellulite and stretch marks
  • localised fat deposits
  • skin laxity, tired-looking skin and poor tone
  • expression lines and deep wrinkles
  • uneven body and facial contours
  • scarring

An innovative development — an RF device with a vacuum function

This new-generation system uses two active mechanisms at once to care for the skin of the face and body. The device combines controlled vacuum action with radiofrequency heating to act on different layers of the skin and influence local tissue processes. These combined mechanisms may produce aesthetic changes:

  • wrinkles may become less visible
  • skin tone may improve
  • blood circulation and lymphatic drainage may improve
  • the treatment is intended to reduce the volume of localised fat

Adding a vacuum function may further influence local blood circulation.

The devices generally offer several vacuum and power levels, allowing the settings to be adjusted individually to suit the procedure.

Reaction devices are popular in cosmetic treatment and feature three applicators for different areas:

  • BodyContour for the thighs, buttocks and abdomen
  • F-Contour (FC) for the chin, neck and underarm area
  • SkinTightening for areas with sagging skin, scar tissue and stretch marks

A ReFit protocol is also available to address loose, sagging skin, including after liposuction or rapid weight loss.
